Cuzco: Navel of the World

Plaza de Armas, Cuzco, Peru

For the Inca, Cuzco was the navel of the world and thus, the city is laden with history. Like Rome, all roads led to Cuzco and the greatest buildings were constructed here. Not surprisingly, the Spanish also focused their efforts on crushing and embarrassing the Inca here, particularly in the main Plaza. None of the original structures in the city survived, but the solid Inca foundations appear all over the city with colonial buildings erected right on top.

  1. I would like to know if it would be possible for me to use a couple of your images of Cuzco in a Power Point presentation I am composing on early civilizations of South America. I will be presenting this information to a group of passengers on board a Holland America cruise to Latin America. It’s my desire to educate them about the historical majesty of this country. In composing this presentation, I have really struggled to come up with good photos that are not copyrighted.

I will certainly credit your image if you allow me to use it.

    thank-you,

    Kate Ross

    • Sure – feel free, Kate. Good luck with your presentations!
